Time to listen out for.........Woodpeckers

The harsher winter in the UK has pushed everything back this year by some order.  I normally start to hear Woodpeckers drmming in February.

Well we went out for a couple of hours walk this morning around our local patch.  Still chilly but spring is definiteley trying to get through.

Highlights of the walk were Jay (very few around this part of the world), 100 or so each of Redwings and Fieldfare, good numbers of Reed Bunting and Yellowhammer and the best treat of all was about 20 Tree Sparrows.

Tree Sparrows as a species are now quite rarely seen and this was the first time I have seen them in Warwickshire.

We heard two separate Green Woodpeckers, saw three Great Spotted and heard two more separate birds drumming.

Then when I got home there was a Treecreeper in the garden, another garden first for me.
