Adobe - Heads up on Upgrades

Dave and I had a Skype catch up recently and one of the many topics of conversation was the upgrade path policy on Adobe products.

It used to be that if you had say Photoshop CS2 you could bu the upgrade to take you to CS5 as you could make the cheaper route option with up to 3 levels of version variance.

Caution, my friends - No more is that the case.

So unless you upgrade at each an every version, and miss one out you will pay full whack.

So for example, you are on CS4, CS5 is current and CS6 is just around the corner, then if you wait you will be shelling out £600 or thereabouts instead of ca. £150.

OK, so you are now warned.

I will check out Lightroom and see if that is the same, but will assume so.

So if you are on levels below CS5 or LR3, get buying if you want to save in the longer term

Photoshop CS5 - ACR update

Adobe have just launched ACR 6.2 to take into account 16 new camera bodies and 120 lens profiles. If you have CS5 you will an auto update notification.

Will give it a check out in the near future with the revised lens profiles

Keep your software up to date

One of the great delights with both Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Phase One Capture One is the auto updates feature. I think I have had two come through for CS5 since I originally installed it not so long ago and a few more with Capture One since the beginning of the year.

It was while mulling over what to write last night that it struck me that I don't get this for a couple of other bits of software that I use.

Dave and I have been strong protagonists of Breezebrowser Pro, but it doesn't always tell me when it has been updated, so I have to remember to check.

If you are a user of this fine software, you will find that it is now up to Version 1.9.5.4 issued on 5th July - which has just finished downloading as I write this

I sometimes use Canon's own DPP - this is now at version 3.8.1 - again I was a version down level so have changed that.

I am still currently on Lightroom v2 which as at 2.7, and as far as that will go as it has now been replaced by V3, which I will get round to getting upgrading soon.

Well I am sure you are all far more disciplined than me, and have all your software at current levels, but if not then this might have been of use to you tonight.

Note, the above versions are all for the higher end PC platform. Apple users can also check their links too - except of course for Breezebrowser Pro

Software - Adobe Camera Raw 6.1

Adobe announced a new version of Adobe Camera RAW 6.1 yesterday.

Bio's

David Courtenay, a self taught wildlife and nature photographer, has been capturing images for over 30 years. He has had a passion for wildlife since early childhood and remembers being glued to the television whenever Survival, Wildlife on One and other natural history documentaries were shown. In the 2006 he swapped his established career for the life of a wildlife photographer, such a move demands a measure of uncompromising passion and commitment.

David has travelled extensively throughout Europe as well as spending more than 7 months in India working with local guides and trackers in search of Bengal Tiger, Asian One horned Rhino and Asian Elephant. He has also photographed Wildlife in Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, Africa, Canada and America. Working closely with Conservation companies he tries to raise funds to help Wildlife that has been put on the endangered list by poaching and habitation loss

Martin Dyer has had a passion for avian wildlife since childhood, particularly raptors. Photography was also another keen interest and it was with the specific availability and control of the whole process that digital offers that Martin was then able to combine the two in 2003. Based in the UK, Martin is a regular visitor to Scotland, specifically the Isle of Mull to watch the Eagles resident there. Other trips to Europe and around the UK are usually part of Martin’s agenda in a typical year.

However, as a firm believer on making the most of the local patch, Martin has spent a lot of time and hard work creating a wildlife garden which is reaping the rewards with many new species and varieties of wildlife. A keen member of a number of wildlife photographic groups, Martin is keen to expand his portfolio into other areas of wildlife, and has already established a wide portfolio of images of fungi.
