I have been tracking the new PC as it left California yesterday, It went from LA to Texas to Florida and then onto South Carolina and is now making its way North so its well travelled, I actually paid extra for packaging to make sure that it arrives in as good a condition as it left-Fingers crossed, We spend far too much time behind a computer screen so its worth the money to get a good one and one that you can grow with over the next few years, We are having the survey done on our house tomorrow and i have a few things to tide up so i am afraid its a quicky from me today

PC Power?
The weather here over the last couple of days has been hot but wet-very wet, So i have been stuck behind the PC screen getting some processing done, I had my PC lock up 3 times when using Capture one and although my PC isnt the least powerful around it shows that the new software's that are hitting the market take up a lot of your processing power, So once again i have been spending some time in stores and on-line to see what's available and may move my purchase up and use the money set aside for a new camera, So now i have had 3 visits to the Apple store and have visited the most popular PC custom makers like Puget Systems and Cyberpower, I think my mind is made up to stay with a PC as opposed to a Mac, I was suprised to see that BH sell Macs and offer reasonable deals over the Apple store but i digress, So now its just down to specs, I was going to get the most powerful i can afford which would be one using the new i7-980 processor along with 12 mb Ram, An SSD for the OS and a fast hard drive for other stuff as well as keeping all my images externally, The PC would offer USB3 and SATA so when i upgrade my externals, downloading and up loading should be very fast, Now the question is am i going over board, The PC will basically be a gaming PC, So am i wasting my money, My thoughts are that although its a touch ott at the moment in the next year or two both Nikon and Canon will be offering 30+MP cameras in the way of the 1DS4 and D4X, I dont want to be buying a new PC every 2 years by just buying whats good now, If my PC is way too fast now-can it be? then in 2 or 3 years it should still be good right?
So give me some help here-what would you do, Buy the fastest available now or down spec

Computer bits
Following on from Martins blog yesterday i thought i would add a few bits and bobs, I too had a lot of virus problems a few months ago-nearly made me go to a mac it was that bad but i came to my senses and got the problems resolved, I added a new anti virus called trend micro and paid a little extra for an engineer to dial into my PC and sort the problems out, I also use Defraggler which is free which as it sounds defrags the hard drive and another free software called CCleaner which checks your system and gets rid of any crap-i got 16 MB back on my laptop!!! and i also cleaned the registry with it, Once i had given the PC and laptop a run through with these programs everything run much better, When i stop buying lenses (the new 16-35 should arrive today) my next purchase will be a top speck PC, I know what i want but it going to mean digging deep but like Martin says the files are getting bigger and bigger so its a must have rather than a luxury

Getting lost in technology PT2
A few blogs ago when i was in NY i said about relying on the everyday gizmos that we take for granted-the laptop and GPS both giving me problems and leaving me stranded-well the bad luck seems to continue and the last few days my desk top has been locking up and blue screening-never a good time when these things happen-thank god that everything is double backed up, I use CA anti virus and a full system check has shown nothing untoward so last night a defrag in the hope that it will sort out the gremlins, Today it has taken 20 mins and 3 resets to get this far so i guess the Dell will have to go in for a check up as its under 2 years old-not a bad spec and i dont want to have to fork out for a new PC just yet
Thank god that its holiday time over here-thanks giving tomorrow and that means that my wife has a few days off so we can try to relax and drop in on a few places to check out for future wildlife visits
So i will make this a short one incase it crashes again and just say to all my American buddies a big happy holidays and to my Euro buddies-get back to work
